Several years back I worked a sales job at a national musical equipment chain. During the 3 months I lasted there, I sold as many items as the next guy but still couldn’t break my quota for the month. I mainly sold keyboards/electric pianos; something I have a major passion for.
Parents would come in looking at a $900+ digital piano for little Jonny, who just last week decided he was going to be the greatest keyboard player ever. 9 times out of 10 I talked them down to a $80 Casio. Was it because I had a good idea that Jonny was going to play it for a week and all that money would go down the drain? Or, maybe, I couldn’t stand to think of a great board being wasted on someone who might ditch it for a guitar the next week? I don’t know.
I promise that I will never sell you something you don’t need. I will stay up at night knowing you bought something from me that will ultimately become a thorn in your side. With that, I bring my next point…
I will not sell you something that I do not have 100% faith that I am one of the best candidates for the job. In the spirit of avoiding competitive approaches to my business, I will gladly recommend an individual that I believe is better suited for your project. Who am I to sell you a piece of junk, and who am I to rob a neighbor of a job that he/she is better for?
That is my promise to you.
